Even if your mobility is restricted, it is still important to keep active.
Try to find an activity you enjoy and will keep you motivated to take part in regularly. Regular exercise will help to keep your bones strong, joints flexible and help control your weight as well as being a pleasurable and social experience.
Tai Chi
Tai Chi originates from China and is a very gentle form of movement designed to relax and develop the whole body. One of its great attractions is that it suits any age. The aim of the gentle set of movements known as the "form" is to build strength, stamina and suppleness. Older people are increasingly using Tai Chi and the benefits are vast including - aiding digestion, strengthening bones and muscles, regulating blood pressure and promoting good sleep. It has also been proven to prevent falls in older people and the more you practice it the more benefits you will gain.

Line Dancing
If you are looking for a fun way to exercise and make new friends, then joining a line dancing class would fit the bill. There is a weekly session on Tuesday mornings at St Joseph's Church Hall, Tangier Rd, Copnor, Portsmouth from 10.00am to 11.30 am. This is a beginner level class aimed at the 50+ age group, although there are one or two youngsters attending too. The weekly cost is £3.00. For more information ring Linda on 023 92 371343
The Mountbatten Centre
TOFFS - a mixed activity session for the young at heart, including table tennis, badminton, gym sessions, bowls. New faces always welcome.

Includes keep fit to music, short mat bowls, badminton, table tennis and relaxation area for a drink and a chat.
